Police open fire on a vehicle which tried to crash through barriers at the final stage of the Tour de France.

Police have opened fire on a car in Paris which tried to crash through barriers set up for the final stage of the Tour de France.

Thousands of spectators are expected to descend on the French capital for the conclusion of the event this afternoon.

According to Sky Sports News, the two occupants of the car escaped unharmed after coming under fire in the Place de la Concorde, while no officers were injured. The incident is not likely to affect today's race.

Chris Froome is in prime position to be crowned champion of the famous competition for the second time in three years, having defended his lead during Saturday's penultimate stage.
