Phil Taylor is out of the PDC World Grand Prix after he was defeated 3-2 by Scotland's Robert Thornton.

Robert Thornton has capitalised on five missed match darts by Phil Taylor to beat the 15-time world champion 3-2 in the PDC World Grand Prix.

In a topsy-turvy match, Taylor came back from 2-1 down to miss five darts at his favoured double 16 for the match in a final-leg decider, before Thornton hit double 20 to secure his place in the quarter-finals.

The Scot will now play Mervyn King, who beat Dave Chisnall 3-1 in a match that included 12 180's.

Justin Pipe reached his first quarter-final in Dublin with a tense 3-2 victory over Kevin Painter.

He will now face Irishman Brendan Dolan, who saw off the challenge of Vincent van der Voort 3-1 as he attempts to reach his second successive final in Dublin.
