Raymond van Barneveld: 'Every point is important'

Defending champion Raymond van Barneveld admits that he must produce his best darts to have any chance of earning progression through to the Premier League playoffs.

Raymond van Barneveld has admitted that he must fight for every point during the remainder of the Premier League.

The defending champion edged into the final eight with a 6-6 draw against Gary Anderson last Thursday, and ahead of his contest with Phil Taylor in Sheffield, the Dutchman believes that he can continue his improved form against his most famous rival.

The 47-year-old told PDC.tv: "I'm happy to have gone through to the rest of the season but it's going to be very hard from here to get into the top four.

"I can't see why I can't make the semi-finals but I've got to win more matches. Every game's like a final from here and every point is important.

"Games against players like Phil, Gary and Michael van Gerwen though, seem to bring the best out of me and I averaged over 100 in each of the last three games, but I want to play like that every single week."

Three weeks ago, Van Barneveld defied a 115 average from the Stoke-on-Trent thrower before running out a 7-4 victor.
