Michael van Gerwen coasts past Vincent van der Voort

Michael van Gerwen books his place in the second round of the World Grand Prix with a 2-0 victory over Vincent van der Voort in Dublin.

Michael van Gerwen has got his World Grand Prix campaign underway with a 2-0 win over compatriot Vincent van der Voort.

The world number one, who won in Dublin in 2012, conceded just one leg to his fellow Dutchman as he comfortably booked a place in the last 16.

Raymond van Barneveld came from a set behind to record a 2-1 victory over last year's finalist Dave Chisnall, but Simon Whitlock was eliminated from the tournament at the first hurdle after losing out to Richie Burnett in three sets.

Stephen Bunting marked his Grand Prix debut with a 2-0 win over Ronnie Baxter, while Dean Winstanley edged out Michael Smith to set up a clash with Van Gerwen.

Peter Wright survived a second-set wobble to register a 2-1 success against Jamie Caven, with Mervyn King winning by the same scoreline against Wes Newton.

In the other match of the night, Terry Jenkins produced a clinical display to see off the challenge of Kim Huybrechts.
