Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen progress at UK Open

Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen reach the last 16 of the UK Open with comfortable victories over David Pallett and Paul Hogan respectively.

Phil Taylor has remained on course for a sixth UK Open title with a 9-3 victory over David Pallett in Minehead.

The Stoke-on-Trent thrower twice hit six perfect darts during the fourth-round encounter, but he had to be content with a routine win over the world number 47.

Michael van Gerwen, who has been struggling with a pulled muscle in his right arm, joined Taylor in the last 16 with a 9-4 win over qualifier Paul Hogan.

However, Raymond van Barneveld bowed out of the competition after being thrashed 9-1 by Peter Wright.

Stephen Bunting is through to the next stage after a 9-6 triumph over Dave Chisnall.

Last-16 draw:

Kyle Anderson vs. Mervyn King
Kim Huybrechts vs. Michael van Gerwen
Eddie Dootson vs. Devon Petersen
Vincent van der Voort vs. Phil Taylor
Mensur Suljovic vs. Jan Dekker
Stephen Bunting vs. William O'Connor
Peter Wright vs. John Henderson
James Wade vs. Andrew Gilding
