Phil Taylor, James Wade through in Dublin

Phil Taylor and James Wade progress through to the second round of the World Grand Prix after they both recorded 2-1 victories on Monday night in Dublin.

Phil Taylor and James Wade both edged to narrow victories on Monday to progress through to the second round of the World Grand Prix.

World number one Taylor, who is looking for his 11th title in Dublin, was tested by Jamie Caven before securing the final set to move through to a last-16 tie with Paul Nicholson, who produced a stunning display to defeat Robert Thornton.

Wade, the champion in 2007 and 2010, survived a missed match dart from Steve Beaton to take a deciding leg to book a second-round clash with Connie Finnan, who stunned Terry Jenkins in front of his home crowd.

Gary Anderson averaged in excess of 104 to whitewash Jelle Klaasen, while there were also triumphs for Wes Newton, Simon Whitlock and Ronnie Baxter.
