Michael van Gerwen brushes aside Ian White

Michael van Gerwen eases through to the last eight of the World Matchplay with a 13-4 win over Ian White.

PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen has recorded a 13-4 victory over Ian White to move through to the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay in Blackpool.

Van Gerwen took advantage of a number of failed attempts at double from his opponent to ease into an 8-2 advantage, and although White improved towards the end of the contest, he was unable to halt the Dutchman's progress to the last eight.

The world number one will now face Dave Chisnall after the World Grand Prix runner-up held off the challenge of Andy Hamilton to run out a 13-10 winner.

Raymond van Barneveld has been knocked out of the tournament after he let slip a 4-0 lead against Simon Whitlock to eventually lose 13-8.

The Australian thrower now plays 2007 Matchplay champion James Wade after the left-hander cruised to a 13-2 success over Richie Burnett.
