Wade beats Van Barneveld for Benidorm title

James Wade beats Raymond van Barneveld to claim the Spansih Darts Trophy in Benidorm.

James Wade has continued his resurgence on the PDC Pro Tour after he defeated Raymond van Barneveld 6-2 to win the Spanish Darts Trophy.

Wade, who also won in Gladbeck last weekend, quickly fell a break of throw behind in the final before he won six out of seven legs to claim the title.

He had earlier defeated Mareno Michels, Gary Welding, Colin Osborne, Mensur Suljovic, Mark Webster and Dave Chisnall before beating Van Barneveld in the tournament decider.

Van Barneveld had reached the final by overcoming a 5-3 deficit to beat 15-time world champion Phil Taylor for the first time since June 2008.

There was a repeat of the 2011 World Championship final at the last-32 stage with Adrian Lewis defeating Gary Anderson 6-5, but Lewis crashed to a 6-0 loss to Chisnall in the next round.

A second event takes place in Benidorm on Sunday.
