Chris Mears has clinched a place in the final of the men's 3m springboard.

The Team GB diver held his nerve throughout the opening stages before dazzling the judges with a near-flawless forward 4 1/2 somersault in the closing round.

Mears came away with a score of 461.00 to cruise through to the last 12 in ninth place, behind Alexandre Despatie of Canada.

China's He Chong finished in first place with a score of 510.15, but he faced fierce competition from Russia's Ilya Zakharov, who beat Qin Kai to second place.

The men's 3m springboard final takes place at the Aquatics Centre at 7pm tonight.
