Russell T Davies admits that the Eurovision-style episode of Doctor Who could be rescheduled due to the FA Cup final.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has admitted that the sixth episode of the new run could be rescheduled due to the Eurovision Song Contest and the FA Cup.

The second series featuring Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor begins next weekend and runs on consecutive Saturdays for eight weeks.

The sixth episode of the series, 'The Interstellar Song Contest', guest stars Rylan Clark and is themed around the Eurovision Song Contest.

At present it is scheduled to air on BBC One directly before the grand final of this year's Contest on Saturday, May 17, which is also the day of the FA Cup final.

The kick-off time for that match at Wembley is currently unknown, but if the game goes to extra time and penalties then that could extend the football broadcast by up to an hour, potentially dislodging Who from the schedules.

"The FA Cup is going live on BBC One, and then you have Eurovision going live in the evening, we're squeezed in the middle," Davies told OK!.

"We don't know if we'll even be transmitted that day. It will be on iPlayer but you'll have to sit through a football match to know whether Doctor Who will be out that night."

He added: "They asked if we wanted to move it. But I said, 'That's the most exciting thing I've ever heard. Let's find out!'"

The new series of Doctor Who launches Saturday, April 12 on BBC One and iPlayer.
