Piers Morgan 'hit with Ofcom complaints for alleged bias against government'

TV regulator Ofcom reportedly receives 138 complaints from viewers about Piers Morgan's withering assessment of Boris Johnson on Good Morning Britain.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has reportedly been hit with a fresh round of complaints from viewers following a rant against Boris Johnson last week.

The 55-year-old has consistently racked up complaints to TV regulator Ofcom over the last year for what he asserts is "holding the government to account", while some viewers have accused him of bullying ministers who have appeared on the show.

As the UK passed the grim milestone of 100,000 coronavirus deaths last week, Morgan laid the blame squarely with the Prime Minister, branding him "dithering" and "shameful" and also alleging that Johnson is "not actually sorry for anything he's done wrong".

"Boris Johnson is 'really sorry' that 100,000 have died - the worst death toll in the world over the seven-day average," he told viewers.

"The fifth highest in the world, bearing in mind the countries ahead of us are massively bigger. It's shameful, and the PM is 'really sorry'.

"He bowed his head and said all the right things and empathy is fine, but what is he sorry for? Is he sorry for any of the actions he did? Because judging by what he said, he's not."

According to The Sun, the monologue resulted in 138 complaints to Ofcom, most of which were for "Piers's alleged bias against the government".

The total number of UK deaths attributed to coronavirus now stands at over 109,000, while more than 10 million people have now received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
