'Hollyoaks' halts filming 'after death of crew member'

Hollyoaks becomes the last UK soap to stop filming amid reports that a senior staff member passed away suddenly over the weekend.

Hollyoaks has suspended filming with immediate effect after reports of the death of "a senior staff member".

The news means that every UK soap has now stopped shooting new material, following on from production shutdowns on EastEnders, Doctors, Coronation Street and Emmerdale due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to The Sun, a senior member of the crew reported feeling unwell over the weekend before passing away unexpectedly - although his cause of death remains unconfirmed.

In a statement issued to the newspaper, a Hollyoaks spokesperson said: "After careful consideration Lime Pictures has decided to temporarily suspend recording Hollyoaks from Monday 23rd March.

"It is a decision that has not been taken lightly but looking after our cast and crew is our number one priority."

Production on the show has not stopped completely, with the spokesperson adding that the editorial team will continue to produce new scripts from home.
