BBC Three commissions new stand-up comedy series

BBC Three announces a new six-part series highlighting the best of British stand-up comedy.

BBC Three has announced a new six-part series championing the best of British stand-up comedy.

The industry has taken a significant hit due to the coronavirus pandemic but with venues due to open back up soon, the new show will aim to shine a spotlight on emerging comedic talent.

"It's been the roughest time for live comedy on record and finally we can be the first broadcaster to bring audiences and comedians together in the same place again as nothing beats the magic of shared laughter," said Shane Allen, controller of BBC Comedy.

"The UK comedy circuit is the best in the world and it's vital that we continue to support emerging comedy talent and help launch those stars of tomorrow.

"Our national shared sense of humour is a crucial way to deal with adversity and remind everyone there is solidarity and much needed cheer coming to your screens soon."

The BBC Presents: Stand Up For Live Comedy will be filmed in six different cities across the UK and is expected to be released later this year.
