Love Island's Marcel: "I was very close to being in a coma"

Love Island's Marcel Somerville reveals the reason why he was hospitalised last month.

Love Island star Marcel Somerville has opened up on his medical emergency that saw him rushed to hospital last month.

The 34-year-old was taken to A&E after he started vomiting "violently" before passing out, and the first assumption was that he had caught coronavirus.

Speaking to OK!, Somerville revealed that tests showed that he was negative for coronavirus but does have a previously-undiagnosed case of Type 1 diabetes.

"I was throwing up, felt light-headed. I lost weight, my face was sunken and you could see my bones," he recalled to the magazine.

"It was because I have Type 1 diabetes, but I only found that out in hospital when they asked, 'Do you know you're diabetic?' I had no clue.

"I was in hospital for over a week in intensive care and high dependency units because all the nutrients in my body were gone. I was very close to being in a coma but thanks to the NHS I made it through."

Last week Somerville announced that girlfriend Rebecca Vieira is pregnant with their first child.
