Team GB's Michael Whitaker, Cassionato forced to withdraw

Great Britain's Michael Whitaker and horse Cassionato are forced to withdraw from the Olympic Games after Cassionato showed colic symptoms after Tuesday's action.

Team GB have been forced to withdraw Michael Whitaker and Cassionato from the team jumping event at the Olympic Games.

The duo had qualified for tomorrow's third individual round but after Cassionato showed colic symptoms following his efforts on Tuesday, the decision was made to pull out of tomorrow's schedule.

Jumping performance manager Di Lampard said: "Obviously we're all very, very disappointed for Michael and owners Gary and Beverley Widdowson.

"Cassionato is being treated in the veterinary clinic this evening and is in very good hands. It just shows the effort the horse put into today's round."

Team GB representatives Nick Skelton and Ben Maher will feature in tomorrow's qualifier.
