England defender Joleon Lescott confirms that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's family will not travel to the Euros amid fears of racial abuse in Ukraine.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's family will have to miss out on watching the Arsenal winger compete in his first major tournament for England due to fears of racism.

Violence and acts of racial abuse within Ukraine have been well documented in recent months, which has already convinced Theo Walcott's family to refrain from travelling to Eastern Europe for the competition.

England and Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has revealed that his loved ones will not be in attendance next month, but claimed that Oxlade-Chamberlain's relatives are concerned with the troubled neo-Nazi gangs, who are believed to be targeting the tournament.

"My family weren't going anyway," said Lescott. "It would have been the same if I'd been in South Africa two years ago.

"So it's not the same with mine as with Theo's and Alex's family. It's not a case of them not wanting to go. It's a shame for some members of the squad that their families feel they can't go. Obviously it's a situation that needs to be addressed."

England's first group match is a clash against France in Kiev on June 11.
