Thierry Henry: 'Mesut Ozil can end Arsenal trophy drought'

Thierry Henry is optimistic that Mesut Ozil can help end Arsenal's eight-year wait for a trophy and restore the club to its glory days.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has praised the signing of Mesut Ozil and is hopeful that the German can repay his hefty transfer fee in the form of silverware.

The Gunners pulled off one of the biggest deals of the summer transfer window by luring the 24-year-old to the Emirates Stadium for a fee in the region of £42m from Real Madrid.

Arsene Wenger's men have sat at the summit of the Premier League table for much of the season thus far, and Henry - who was part Arsenal's last trophy-winning side in 2005 - hopes that Ozil will prove money well spent by helping end the club's infamous nine-year trophy drought.

He told Sky Sports: "The player that he has signed for £40m is just like a great player.

"When you look at him playing when he has the ball it seems like he has all the time in the world - and I can tell you for a fact it's not that easy.

"He paid the price to have a player like Ozil, but I think that right now it's showing that it's worth it and hopefully in the end it will show more."

Wenger's side host Chelsea in North London tomorrow evening knowing that victory would be enough to see them boast top spot at Christmas.
