Robin van Persie is urged to remain at Arsenal by teammate Aaron Ramsey, who believes that the club can mount a title challenge if the Dutchman stays at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey believes that the club must retain the services of Robin van Persie if they are to mount a title challenge in the near future.

Van Persie, who is out of contract in 12 months time, has so far refused to extend his current deal with the Gunners.

A host of clubs are said to be interested in signing the Dutchman this summer - with Manchester City reportedly leading the race - but Ramsey is hopeful that his teammate will stay and try to fulfil his ambition at the Emirates Stadium.

"It's important we keep Robin if we want to be title contenders," said Ramsey. "He has proven this season what his value to the team is with the amount of goals he has scored.

"He was our top scorer, won the Golden Boot and the Player of the Year awards so any team would want to keep him. Arsenal are no different. Hopefully he will stay with us."

Van Persie was again on the scoresheet as Holland lost 2-1 at home to Bulgaria last night.
