Arsene Wenger says that he is used to criticism of Arsenal and thinks they might surprise people again this year.

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal might surprise a few people this season and says he is used to being written off.

The Gunners were not among the busiest clubs towards the end of the transfer window.

Last season, there were also doubts over Arsenal at this stage of the season but they managed to finish third in the Premier League.

Wenger has pointed to an "emotional society" as a cause for knee-jerk reactions in football these days.

"You never expect much from us," he said. "But we always have good potential to surprise you.

"There are instant reactions on Twitter, on the radio and the internet. It tells you a lot about the emotion in modern society.

"We have moved from a thinking society to an emotional society. I think it's better to think before you say something - it's easy to speak."

The 62-year-old, who was speaking ahead of his side's clash with Liverpool on Sunday, he believes that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is under similar pressure.

He continued: "There are also a lot of expectations on Liverpool.

"It is hard to pick one team out who has performed well so far this season."

Arsenal are still looking for their first win of the season and will face Liverpool at 1.30pm on Sunday.
