Arsene Wenger keen to reap the rewards of Theo Walcott's 'golden years'

Arsene Wenger wants to see Arsenal forward Theo Walcott spend his 'golden years' with the Gunners amid intense speculation over his future.

Arsene Wenger has hinted that Theo Walcott's future remains at Arsenal and wants to see the forward's 'golden years' spent in North London.

Walcott has a year to run on his contract and has been linked with a move to Liverpool after struggling for first-team chances since returning from injury in November.

The 26-year-old has previously expressed an ambition to earn a central role, having spent much of his Gunners career in a wide position, and Wenger says that he may "transform" him into a striker.

"Being 26 to 32 is the best age as a striker and I wouldn't like to miss that golden age," the Frenchman is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"He can be transformed. He is naturally gifted to play in this position."

The England international has started just three Premier League games this season, despite being fit for much of 2015.
