Arsene Wenger wants Carl Jenkinson to stay at Arsenal for long term

Arsene Wenger insists that he wants Carl Jenkinson to stay at Arsenal when his loan move at West Ham United comes to an end.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he wants Carl Jenkinson to remain at the club, despite spending the season on loan at West Ham United.

Recent reports emerged claiming that the Hammers intend to lodge a £10m bid for the full-back this summer, but Wenger has no desire to sell.

"I met Carl this week to speak about his future," Wenger said in this morning's press conference. "We will sit down together at the end of the season.

"My target is to keep him here at the club. He had a great season for me and he has moved forward and overall he has gained a lot of confidence.

"The decision I have to make is do I bring him back now or does he need one more year now to play somewhere in the Premier League? That is not decided yet. It's important that, if he comes back, he has a good chance to play."

Jenkinson joined Arsenal from Charlton Athletic back in 2011.
