Arsene Wenger hits back at David Ospina critics

Arsene Wenger accuses David Ospina's critics of trying to "kill" the goalkeeper in the wake of his costly error against Olympiacos last week.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has backed David Ospina in the wake of recent widespread criticism aimed towards the goalkeeper.

The Colombia international was at fault for one of the goals as Olympiacos pulled off a shock 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium last week.

Wenger has once more been forced to defend his decision to given Ospina the nod, as opposed to starting regular first-choice stopper Petr Cech, claiming that the keeper's critics are wrongly trying to 'kill him off'.

Speaking to reporters, the Frenchman said: "To kill a player like Ospina, he has been voted the best goalkeeper of the Copa America, he is on the Ballon d'Or list, he was by far the best goalkeeper of the Premier League in the second part of the season last year; I find that just sensationalism, it is not analysis of football."

Cech is expected to return between the sticks for Arsenal this afternoon as they welcome Manchester United in the Premier League.
