Arsene Wenger reveals that Jack Wilshere could return for Arsenal in four weeks.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere could return from injury in four weeks.

The midfielder has missed the entire season so far with a combination of foot and ankle injuries.

However, when asked about the England international's availability, Wenger replied: "A month, if all goes well."

Wenger has also provided an update on the fitness of German defender Per Mertesacker.

The centre-back injured his ankle during Saturday's 2-1 win over Sunderland and Wenger admitted that a scan "didn't look too positive".

"He had a reconstruction of his ankle in Germany before he joined us and the scan didn't look too positive yesterday," said Wenger. "Certainly in the next month he will not be with us."

The Gunners face AC Milan in the Champions League tomorrow evening.
