Raul Albiol hails "phenomenal" Gonzalo Higuain

Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol brands teammate Gonzalo Higuain "a phenomenal player".

Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol has praised his teammate Gonzalo Higuain, who is widely expected to depart the Spanish capital this summer.

Higuain, who has a contract with Madrid until 2016, expressed a desire to leave the former La Liga champions at the end of last season.

Arsenal and Juventus have both been linked with his services, but Albiol is still hopeful that the 25-year-old will remain in Spain.

"Pipita is a phenomenal player. I don't know if we'll continue as teammates, but it's a pleasure to play with him. He's a spectacular striker," Albiol told AS.

"He has fought hard at Madrid, he has had to pick himself up a lot of times. If he leaves, I wish him the best and he'll be a great addition to the team he signs for.

"I hope I never have to come up against him, though, because he's an excellent player!"

It is understood that Madrid value Higuain in the region of £25m.
