Arsenal 'lead race for Andre Gomes'

Arsenal lead the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this summer, according to a report.

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this summer.

Gomes only moved to Barcelona from Valencia in the summer of 2016, but has struggled to settle at the Catalan club.

The 24-year-old did make 31 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish champions last season, although he found it difficult to win a spot in Ernesto Valverde's starting XI, and featured in just 16 La Liga games last term.

Valencia have been strongly linked with a move for their former midfielder, but according to ESPN, new Arsenal boss Unai Emery is desperate to bring the Portuguese to the Emirates Stadium in this summer's transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have also all previously been linked with a move for Gomes.
