Arsenal consider triggering Matteo Guendouzi's one-year contract extension in order to sell the out-of-favour midfielder for a higher price, according to a report.

Arsenal are reportedly considering triggering Matteo Guendouzi's one-year contract extension amid persistent speculation surrounding a possible exit.

It has been one year since the former Lorient youngster last took to the field in an Arsenal shirt, falling out of favour following his altercation with Brighton & Hove Albion forward Neal Maupay.

Guendouzi established himself as a first-team regular for Hertha Berlin during his loan spell in Germany, but the Bundesliga outfit have decided against signing the Frenchman on a permanent basis.

Marseille are understood to be closing in on a permanent move for Guendouzi, but RMC Sport claims that Arsenal are hoping to exercise their option of a further 12 months on the 22-year-old's contract.

Guendouzi's current deal at Arsenal will expire at the end of next season, but the report claims that another 12 months could see them pocket an extra €10m (£8.6m) from his sale.

The France Under-21 international has made 82 appearances for Arsenal since arriving in the summer of 2018, scoring one goal and registering five assists in that time.
