Bolton Wanderers have rejected a £6m bid for Gary Cahill from Arsenal, according to The Mirror.
The offer was well below Bolton's asking price of £17m for the defender and was rejected immediately.
A Bolton insider suggested that the Gunners 'were taking the mickey' with the bid for the 25-year-old, who has one year left on his current contract at the Reebok Stadium.
Arsenal are keen to sign Cahill to shore up their defence and had previously failed with a bid for fellow England defender Phil Jagielka from Everton.
Bolton are willing to listen to offers for Cahill but are hopeful of agreeing new terms with the player.
Cahill joined Bolton from Aston Villa for £5m in 2008 and has gone on to make 112 appearances for the Trotters.
