Arsenal-linked midfielder Julian Draxler confirms intention to leave Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler opens the door for a summer transfer to Arsenal by admitting that he wants to leave his current club.

Julian Draxler has admitted that he has been left frustrated by Wolfsburg's resistance to allow him to leave the club this summer.

The Germany international had been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this window, before the Wolves categorically ruled out a sale for their star performer.

Wolfsburg claimed that Draxler, thought to be valued at around £51m, was happy to remain at the club for another season and was not interested in joining Arsenal.

However, the midfielder has now publicly spoken out about the recent gossip, claiming that his side have known his true thoughts on a move away for the past three weeks.

"Before you go public like that, you really should speak with me first," Draxler told German newspaper Bild. "The situation with me is that I made it clear to [manager] Dieter Hecking after we were knocked out of Euro 2016 in the semi-final that I would like to leave Wolfsburg.

"The coach has known about this for three weeks. It's very surprising that they have been talking about me to the media for weeks. I would have expected things to be different, for example for one of them to come to me and ask me how things are with me."

Draxler, a summer signing from Schalke 04 last year, made 34 appearances for Wolfsburg in 2015-16.
