Manchester City have reportedly open talks with super-agent Jorge Mendes over a proposed move to sign his client Rafael Leao from AC Milan.
The 22-year-old has impressed for the Serie A title challengers this season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
According to journalist Nicolo Schira, the Citizens are 'really interested' in signing the €70m-rated Portugal international and they have now opened talks with the player's agent.
Schira adds, however, that Milan remain hopeful of extending Leao's contract to June 2026, and have offered the forward a salary increase worth €4.5m per year.
Leao, who has also been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Newcastle United, will see his current deal at San Siro expire in the summer of 2024.
City's primary target is still believed to be Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland, who is allegedly pining for a move to the Etihad Stadium ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
