Aston Villa have reportedly failed with a bid to ensnare Michu from the Spanish fourth division.
The 29-year-old striker left Swansea City last summer following a lengthy injury layoff and is now plying his trade with UP Langreo in the Tercera Division.
According to The Sun, the Premier League's basement side made an offer to bring the Spaniard back to England this month but were turned down by the striker himself.
"I've had a few offers but I want to be honest with myself in terms of my fitness so I turned it down," Michu told the newspaper. "I'm happy with my decision and will wait until summer."
Michu's brother Hernan, manager at Langreo, revealed that there have been a number of approaches for his services this transfer window. "I had a meeting with a person who works for Villa," he said. "He asked 'How's Michu?' I said he's OK. Clubs in Spain and Germany also want him."
Michu scored 20 goals in 52 league appearances during his three years with the Swans.
