Gerardo Martino hopes to stay at Barcelona beyond this season

Gerardo Martino insists that he wants to stay on as Barcelona head coach, despite the possibility of the club missing out on silverware this season.

Gerardo Martino has insisted that he wants to remain Barcelona head coach, despite the possibility of the club failing to pick up a major trophy this season.

The Catalan giants are in danger of missing out for the first time in seven years.

The club have dropped out of the Champions League and are also four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid in the La Liga table.

A number of reports have suggested that Martino, who replaced the late Tito Vilanova last summer, could be sacked from his role.

"I'd like to think I'll be staying," BBC Sport quotes Martino as saying. "It's been intense, I've learned a lot about myself."

Celta Vigo coach Luis Enrique is believed to be the favourite to replace Martino, who has one year remaining on his contract.
