Bolton Wanderers captain Nigel Reo-Coker has revealed that witnessing Fabrice Muamba collapse and suffer a cardiac arrest at White Hart Lane last Saturday has changed his life.

The 27-year-old midfielder had been to visit his teammate in the London Chest Hospital, where he broke down in tears.

Reo-Coker, who has captained the Trotters on numerous occasions this season, has explained that the experience left him feeling powerless.

"I didn't realise how serious it was until the physio got there and I tried to help him turn Fabrice over. That's when I realised it was more serious," said Reo-Coker.

"People were breaking down and crying in the dressing room. We just had to try and comfort each other. We were all powerless. It was in the hands of the medical department and God.

"Later, I couldn't think straight. It's an experience you never expect or want to go through. For me, it's life-changing. It just shows how precious life is."

Ahead of the game against Blackburn Rovers later today, Reo-Coker has urged his teammates to "play for Muamba".
