Neil Lennon leaves Bolton Wanderers by mutual consent

Bolton Wanderers announce that manager Neil Lennon has left the club by mutual consent.

Bolton Wanderers have announced that manager Neil Lennon has left the club by mutual consent.

The 44-year-old took charge of the Championship club in October 2014 on a four-year contract.

This season has been tumultuous for Bolton as they could only muster one victory in their first 11 league games and they are currently at the bottom of the standings, 11 points from safety.

Away from the pitch, the Trotters plunged into financial trouble, but last month, Sport Shield Group sealed a £7.5m takeover.

After one win in their last nine games, Bolton have opted to part company with Lennon.

A statement from the club read: "Bolton Wanderers can announce that the club have today, Tuesday, March 15, parted company with manager Neil Lennon by mutual consent.

"All at Bolton Wanderers would like to thank Neil for his contributions during his time at the club."

Academy coach Jimmy Phillips has been installed as interim manager.
