Report: Paolo Di Canio puts himself forward for Bolton Wanderers job

Former Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has reportedly applied for the vacant post at Championship side Bolton Wanderers.

Former Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has reportedly expressed an interest in the vacant post at Championship side Bolton Wanderers.

The 46-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Sunderland a year ago after just 13 games in charge of the Black Cats.

According to The Telegraph, Di Canio has submitted an application to succeed Dougie Freedman, who left the Trotters last week.

However, the Italian is thought not to be one of the favourites of Bolton chairman Phil Gartside and owner Eddie Davies.

Academy manager Jimmy Phillips and Southend United boss Phil Brown are said to be the preferred options.

Bolton are bottom of the Championship on five points after four straight league defeats.
