Haaland continued his hot scoring form.

An Erling Haaland double saw last season's Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund begin the new campaign with a 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Giovanni Reyna opened the scoring after 35 minutes – his first Bundesliga goal – with Haaland doubling his side's lead with a penalty after the break.

The Norway international wrapped up the three points with a 77th-minute strike.

Augsburg started their season with a 3-1 win against Union Berlin.

Ruben Vargas opened the scoring for Augsburg before Marius Bulter equalised for the Berlin outfit with 15 minutes remaining.

However, Michael Gregoritsch and Andre Hahn both scored in the final eight minutes to earn victory for Heiko Herrlich's side.

Hertha Berlin produced a dominant performance to defeat Florian Kohfeldt's Werder Bremen 4-1.

Peter Pekarik and Dodi Lukebakio both struck in the first half to hand Hertha the lead.

Matheus Cunha and debutant Jhon Cordoba added to the scoreline after the break, with Werder's Davie Selke's consolation goal making little impact.

Andrej Kramaric scored a superb hat-trick as Hoffenheim claimed a 3-2 win over Cologne.

The Croatis international's first strike came after just three minutes but was cancelled out by Sebastian Andersson. Kramaric netted a first-half penalty to put Hoffenheim back in front, but Dominick Drexler levelled with four minutes left.

There was still time for Kramaric to snatch a winner in the second minute of stoppage time and earn all three points.

Elsewhere, goals from Nils Petersen, Roland Sallai and Vincenzo Grifo helped Freiburg defeat newly-promoted Stuttgart 3-2 at the Mercedes Benz Arena. Sasa Kalajdzic and Silas Wamangituka scored for Stuttgart.

Arminia Bielefeld, also promoted last season from the Bundesliga 2, drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Cebio Soukou opened the scoring for Bielefeld before Andre Silva earned a point for Frankfurt.

In Ligue 1, Lens recorded their third successive victory when winning 2-1 against Bordeaux, who were reduced to 10 men after the 58th-minute dismissal of Paul Baysse.

Ignatius Ganago opened the scoring for Lens, who earned their place in the top flight when finishing second in Ligue 2 last season, before Gael Kakuta doubled their lead after converting the penalty given after Baysse was shown a red card.

Bordeaux's Samuel Kalu did respond with a goal in the fifth minute of time added on but Lens held out.

Adrien Truffert struck a stoppage-time winner for Rennes to secure a 2-1 victory over Monaco.

Wissam Ben Yedder opened the scoring for Monaco before Steven Nzonzi levelled for Rennes, only for Truffert to win it.

In LaLiga, Eibar surrendered the advantage gained by Kike's 50th-minute strike as they lost 2-1 to Villareal.

Gerard Moreno equalised on the hour, with Paco Alcacer slotting home the winning goal 11 minutes later.

Jaime Mata scored the only goal to hand Getafe victory over Osasuna, while Iago Aspas hit a double to lead Celta Vigo to a 2-1 triumph over Valencia.

Maxi Gomez's second-half equaliser proved insufficient for the visitors.

In Serie A, Fiorentina defeated Torino 1-0 after a Gaetano Castrovilli strike, while Verona and Roma played out a goalless draw.
