Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed this afternoon at the Vitality Stadium and after play was suspended for 30 minutes, match officials decided to abandon the match.

Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed just before the hour mark this afternoon at the Vitality Stadium and after play was suspended for about half an hour, match officials decided to call off the match.

The sides were level a 1-1 after Elijah Adebayo's early goal was cancelled out by Dominic Solanke in the second half.

Paramedics were immediately on scene following the incident, and with the distressing scenes on the pitch, play was suspended and the players were sent to their change rooms while the Luton skipper received emergency treatment.

The incident brought back vivid memories of the play-off final when Lockyer collapsed during the heated affair and watched the remaineder of the match from a hospital bed.

Andoni Iraola faced skepticism when the Cherries failed to secure a win in their first nine Premier League games of the season, but he had since guided them to five victories in eight matches, including four wins in their last five outings heading into today's clash against The Hatters.

Luton came into the match following three consecutive losses, though they could not be faulted for their effort against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Rob Edwards made two changes from the loss to Manchester City, with Issa Kabore stepping in for Ryan Giles, and due to Marvellous Nakamba's suspension, Albert Sambi Lokonga earned a rare start in midfield.

The fans inside the Vitality Stadium were still finding their way to their seats when Luton earned their first corner of the afternoon, which Alfie Doughty took to find Adebayo in the box, and the 25-year-old made no mistake from three yards out.

That goal was Adebayo's third goal in successive top-flight matches and he became the first Luton player to accomplish that feat since Mick Harford in 1992.

It also marked Bournemouth's ninth goal conceded from set pieces this season, which is the most of any side in the Premier League.

Following the opener, Luton's gameplan looked quite obvious as they sat back and looked to play on the counter, but they struggled to keep the ball when in possession and were caught open several times without being made to pay in the opening half hour.

The visitor's back five stood firm in the closing stages of the first half, and while Bournemouth bossed the possessions stats in the first period, they were largely restricted to efforts from distance.

Leading up to this match, Bournemouth were unbeaten in their six top-flight games against newly promoted sides since they returned to the Premier League last season, but that record was under threat as they headed for the dressing rooms 1-0 behind.

However, the hosts came flying out the blocks in the second period and found the equaliser 10 minutes after the restart when Luton failed to clear a corner.

Solonke latched onto the loose ball in the box in the box and drilled a low finish to claim his nint league goal of the season and fifth in his last six.

The game lifted in intensity following the equaliser but came to an abrupt halt just before the hour hark when Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch.
