Rodrigo Paiva: 'Brazil don't rely on referees for help'

Brazil team spokesman Rodrigo Paiva says that the host nation are not relying on refereeing decisions to win matches at the World Cup.

Brazil spokesman Rodrigo Paiva has dismissed comments that the team have been relying on refereeing decisions to seal victories in the World Cup.

English referee Howard Webb, who took charge of the 2010 final, will officiate the host nation's round-of-16 clash with Chile tomorrow, having also been the referee when they met in the South Africa tournament four years ago.

Paiva said at a press conference: "This kind of pressure I think is ridiculous.

"Brazil doesn't need a referee to win the match and you should respect a little bit more the Brazilian national team and the Brazilian people."

Chile winger Alexis Sanchez has admitted that he is concerned about the standard of refereeing at this tournament ahead of their meeting with Brazil.
