Lee Carsley: 'I do not want Brentford job'

Lee Carsley insists that he has no intention of becoming Brentford manager on a permanent basis after being given the job until the end of the season.

Lee Carsley has revealed that he has no intention of accepting the Brentford job on a permanent basis.

After the club decided to part company with Marinus Dijkhuizen earlier this week, it was Carsley who was given the responsibility of taking charge of the first-team squad until the end of the season after previously serving as development coach.

Despite being handed the opportunity to achieve success in the Championship, the 41-year-old believes that his future is unlikely to be with the club.

"I don't want the job permanently," he told reporters after watching Brentford lose 2-0 to Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

"I didn't ask to be a football manager. It certainly wasn't something I put my hand up for. I want to be a coach - I love coaching.

"I wouldn't have thought I could go back to being the club's development coach either. I've been in the situation before at Coventry. It's always difficult to go back."

Brentford return to action with a trip to Derby County on Saturday.
