Gus Poyet says that he will launch an appeal against his sacking as manager of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Gus Poyet has said that he plans to appeal Brighton & Hove Albion's decision to sack him as their manager.

The Seagulls announced that the Uruguayan has been released by the club following the result of a disciplinary hearing that he failed to attend.

Poyet, who is currently part of BBC Sport's panel for Spain's Confederations Cup clash with Nigeria, said that he has not received any word from the Championship club yet and said that his legal team will be heading an appeal.

"I've still had no communication from the club, no text no email, I didn't receive anything," the 45-year-old said. "I'm probably the first to be in this position. Everyone can take their own conclusions about they way I have been informed by you.

"I suppose reading the statement I will be able to talk to them. It's very sad, they made me proud. Not being able to answer a phone or text is unusual.

"Are they messing with my career? We will see, it's too early to say. I am looking forward to clearing this."

Poyet, who was suspended, took charge of Brighton in 2009 and guided them into the playoffs last year.
