Charlie Austin: 'My best will come next season'

Burnley striker Charlie Austin insists that he will produce his best form next season.

Charlie Austin has told Burnley supporters that they will see his best form next season.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Clarets from Swindon Town in 2011, has struggled for form and fitness for large parts of the current campaign.

However, speaking after he netted three goals against Portsmouth on Saturday, the striker insisted that he will have fully adapted to the Championship in time for the new campaign.

"I don't see why you won't see the best of me next season, this is my first full year in the Championship and hopefully I can really push on next season," Austin told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. "I've learned a lot, worked hard and done what I can.

"I've got 14 [goals] now, and if I can get any more it's a bonus.

"But I'll take my performances so far this season, some have been below par, but you're not going to perform every game."

Austin only turned professional in 2009 when he left Poole Town for Swindon.
