Daniel McBreen scored the only goal of the game on 27 minutes, finishing well from close range with an assist from Joshua Rose.

Sydney fought back in the second half and had the chance to level the scores just before the hour mark, but Ali Abbas's header from six yards was straight at goalkeeper Liam Reddy.

At the other end, the Mariners threatened to double their lead, as McBreen and Michael McGlinchey forced good stops out of Vedran Janjetovic.

The Mariners climb to fourth in the table, while Sydney remain third.
