Ola John insists that Chelsea were "lucky" to win the Europa League final.

Benfica striker Ola John has insisted that the only reason his side lost to Chelsea in the Europa League final was "luck".

John dismissed inexperience as the reason that Benfica could not take their chances but admitted that missing opportunities will usually come back to haunt a team.

"I don't think [defeat] had anything to do with inexperience; maybe it is more about luck – more bad luck for us," he told UEFA.com.

"We played a very good first half but we didn't score and you know if you don't take your chances then your opponents will eventually get chances of their own. They did and they scored."

Meanwhile, John's goalkeeper Artur was lost for words at the defeat.
