Asmir Begovic has admitted that his move to Chelsea has not gone "as planned" as he has struggled to cement a regular spot in the first team.
The 28-year-old gave up his number one role at Stoke City last summer to join the Blues, whose first-choice keeper is Thibaut Courtois.
Begovic stepped in for Courtois when the Belgium international was injured, but was pushed back to the substitutes' bench when the 23-year-old returned to action at the start of December.
"[Moving to Chelsea] wasn't as simple as being number one or number two - I felt I needed a new challenge," Begovic told the London Evening Standard.
"Certain things were put in place, conversations sounded good to me and I wanted to be part of a great club and help the team win trophies. It hasn't gone as planned, but hopefully that will change and the future will look a bit brighter."
Begovic spent five years at Stoke before moving to Chelsea.
