Chelsea assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo insists that Fernando Torres is well aware of Chelsea's "support" for the striker.

Chelsea assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo believes that Fernando Torres will come good at Stamford Bridge despite a disappointing start to his career with the Blues.

The Spain international, who has scored just three goals in 24 appearances, seems to be second choice to 33-year-old Didier Drogba, prompting speculation that the ex-Liverpool forward was not part of Andre Villas-Boas's plans.

"There are a lot of positive signs with Fernando. We've been pleased with him," said Di Matteo. "I know we all expect our strikers to score, but if they don't, you look at their performance in the team, and we've been pleased.

"The goals will come, no doubt. He's got great talent and has scored goals before. He knows what to do and how to do it, and we have a lot of faith in him as well. We can see the player has talent, the way he trains every day, the effort he puts in.

"That's how you assess him. I have no doubt that he will score goals for us. He's done it this season: he started very well. He knows that we support him. We talk to the players. He knows that."

The 27-year-old is expected to feature for the Blues against Liverpool in the Carling Cup quarter-final clash in London this evening.
