Coach: "Jose Bosingwa invented an injury"

Portugal coach Paulo Bento accuses Jose Bosingwa of feigning injury to avoid a friendly match against Argentina earlier this year.

Portugal coach Paulo Bento has accused Chelsea full-back Jose Bosingwa of faking an injury under his management.

Bosingwa confirmed his retirement from international football last week after clashing with Bento.

The coach has now had his say on the matter and claimed that the 29-year-old "invented an injury" to miss a friendly match against Argentina in February.

"A professional footballer could never fake injuries, and Bosingwa invented an injury so as not to play against Argentina," said Bento.

"For me, a player would never invent an injury to avoid a call for the national team. That is very serious."

Bosingwa has represented his country on 24 occasions.
