Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola talks up the importance of his side's 1-0 win at Chelsea, reserving special praise for Kevin De Bruyne and Fabian Delph.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has talked up the importance of his side's 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening.

City regained their spot at the top of the Premier League table courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne's strike against his former club, although the match itself was significantly more one-sided than the scoreline suggests.

The leaders dominated possession for long spells against the champions and Guardiola was pleased with what he saw from his side, reserving special praise for De Bruyne and makeshift left-back Fabian Delph.

"There are no words to describe what Chelsea are and what they did last season. It is important to win and especially with the way we played. In the first half we didn't find the right position but in the second we were better. A big congratulations for the victory," he told BT Sport.

"Chelsea want to play and they are so so dangerous in attack but we kept the ball and when they had it we pressed as high as possible. Everyone is talking about Kevin De Bruyne. He makes absolutely everything. He is the most humble guy, I am so happy for him because I know how happy he is.

"The last few games Fabian Delph has played and he had an outstanding performance. He is a guy that doesn't lose the ball he is aggressive and clever. I am so happy for him after last season and the way he played last season."

City have now equalled their club record of five top-flight away wins on the bounce, in addition to keeping four consecutive clean sheets for the first time under Guardiola in the league.
