David Luiz: 'John Terry deserves more respect from Chelsea'

David Luiz says that John Terry deserves more respect from Chelsea in relation to their failure to offer the defender a new contract.

David Luiz has criticised Chelsea for failing to offer captain John Terry a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Terry recently revealed that he intends to leave the Premier League club at the end of the season because from his point of view, they have no plans to extend his deal.

However, the club itself has not ruled out a new contract for the defender, who made his senior debut for the Blues in 1998.

Luiz, who left Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain for £50m in June 2014, is baffled by the English club's conduct.

"John is probably Chelsea's greatest ever player, the club need to show him some more respect," Luiz told reporters. "He has been clear that he wants to stay at the club, and they are making him wait for an answer.

"That is not how you treat a player who has given you so much and been a big part of so much success. The fans love John - if this is not handled well, they are not going to be happy.

"I am confused why John hasn't been offered a new contract. He is still the best central defender at the club and one of the best in England, there should be no question about him being offered another a year. I really don't know what to say, the whole situation has confused me. I think it's obvious to everybody he deserves an extension."

Terry will not be involved in tonight's Champions League last-16 clash against PSG in France.
