Manchester City defender Micah Richards has described his side's 2-1 win over Chelsea as a "massive result".

The 23-year-old captained Roberto Mancini's team in the absence of the injured Vincent Kompany as City recovered from Gary Cahill's 60th-minute opener to earn all three points following the controversial introduction of Carlos Tevez.

"It's a massive result for us. After we went 1-0 down heads could have dropped, but we kept on going and managed to get three points," Richards told Sky Sports News.

"We did have to win tonight, we gave everything and showed good character.

"The lads will be delighted with that."

This season, Richards has appeared 31 times for City, who remain three points behind Manchester United in the Premier League table.
