Graeme Souness: 'Alvaro Morata not good enough'

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness brands Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata "a near-miss man" following Sunday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has branded Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata "a near-miss man".

Morata rattled the crossbar in the early stages of Chelsea's 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, but largely struggled to make his mark during the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has scored 12 times for Chelsea this season despite a number of injury problems, although Souness has not been convinced with the former Real Madrid forward during the 2017-18 campaign.

"I think he's a near-miss man. Can they give him another year to settle? Can big teams wait that long?" Souness told Sky Sports News. "His general play wasn't good enough."

Morata has 10 goals in 22 Premier League appearances for the Blues, but has only managed one goal in six Champions League fixtures for his London club since arriving last summer.
