John Terry is reportedly informed by the FA that he is no longer England captain amid allegations of racial abuse.

John Terry has reportedly been dropped as England captain by the Football Association amid allegations of racial abuse.

Widespread reports have claimed that the Chelsea skipper was contacted by the Football Association chairman David Bernstein this morning to explain the governing body's decision to strip the centre-back's England captaincy.

It emerged this morning that the FA board were going to meet today to make a decision regarding the national squad future of the 31-year-old, who is alleged to have racially abused Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

Terry is due to stand trial on July 9, a week after the end of this year's European Championships.

While the defender could potentially be deemed innocent after England's Euro 2012 campaign, the FA have reportedly decided to take action before the verdict.

Possible candidates for the Three Lions armband include Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.

The English governing body have refused to confirm the reports.
